Default 66 Shelby GT 350

Hi I am new here.

A friend of mine is looking to buy a 66 Shelby GT 350.

What to look out for in particular before buying this car.

What is the typical value of an unrestored, decent and in running condition Shelby with all parts there?

How to verify thats its a matching numbers car, engine, trans and rearend?

I know its a lot of questions but any input is much appriciated.

Thanks
Claus

How much money does he want to spend? I was thinking about making my own. I don't care if it is the real thing or not. I just like the look.[8D]

To get a Shelby GT 350 with all the parts there is going to cost alot of money. If he has the money to spend he should look into just buying one already restored. If not thenI would think the next best thing would be to just get a 66 fastback and do it up like the Shelby. Even finished Repleca's Shelbys are not cheep. (if you were to just buy one all done)

They are not only expensive, they are pretty rare. So, finding one in any condition will be difficult.

The thing is that the Shelbys are very hard to find and we found one. Its in running condition and has only what appears to be slight surface rust in the underchassis, its supposed to have the original drivetrain - the engine certainly looks untouched from the outside. The car has a 4 speed, it has the rear quarter scoops, the fiberglasshood with scoop, the 9k cobra tacho, the cobra badges.
Its white but no blue stripes across the car - I was told it was an option.

Whats interesting is that it has Carol Shelbys signature on the dashboard passenger side with a date in January 98. The owner even has video of Shelby signing and driving the car with the owners wife.

Are the cars VIN also in the engine number?
Are there any codes on the transmission and rear axle to verify these are original?

How much are they asking? Back in 91, one went for $60,000. It was in mint shape.

Try calling Cobra Automotive @ (203) 284-3863 http://www.cobraautomotive.com/ . They should be able to answer your questions.

I'm to cheap to pay that kind of money for mustang. I would get a 66 fastback and do it up like the Shelby!

I found a 1965 mustang shelby clone for $17,000. Here is the web page. http://images.webkrafters.com/trinit...ing/18842.html
