Default AOD or C4?

Ok so I have been lazy and have yet to rebuild my C4 but got thinking about AOD's and the benefits that I would get from having one (3.55 gears without loosing highway speeds)...
Which is stronger and will withstand more punishment without breaking? AOD or C4? (I don't plan on getting to crazy with this car so a C6 will not be necessary)
How much Loss of power do I get from each trany? (I have herd that you loose about 30HP through a C4)
And finally what is the longevity of each trany? given each is driven just as hard as the other...
Basically is it worth the extra $$$ to put an AOD in my car?

Another thing for you to consider is that the AOD is slightly longer so you will have to deal with that. Here is a good article link that was previously posted by Glenn.

Not crazy about the AOD's. I have one in a Pickup and it has been trouble. I also see places like TCIlisting them for engines 300hp and under.

for the AOD, it depends. a stock one will tend not to handle too much power. the AOD's in my friends Tbirds both went out, and their cars are stock. But if you get a new one, rebuilt with the right parts, it should handle some decent power. what are you putting out?

I would go with the AOD. They both can be built up to hold alot of power. Check out http://clickclickracing.com/ if you want to see some very fast aod cars. All my AOD has is a shift kit and it's still going at 140K miles. Here's a site where you can buy parts to do a stock rebuild or to make it stonger. http://ford-aod.com/

AOD........I've owned and abused mine for the last 10 years, That's with track time. A stock one can hold between 350 and 400 HP with a good torque converter and the proper TV cable adjustment, over that, change the input shaft to a one piece and get another 100+ but you loose the locking capabilities with the one piece shaft. For the best AOD people I use http://www.lentechautomotive.com/, Call them with all your questions and they can direct you to a solution. As for the C4, it is one of the lowest HP robbing transmissions. You can build it to take lots of HP but if your spending the money already then why not spend it on an AOD?

You can have both. Why not just add AOD to your C4?

Has anyone here ever installed one on there car? I have to do one on a 68 Camaro in a couple of weeks and there is two boxes of electrical parts for that thing......And the tunel had to be opened up a little for the gearvender to fit without rubbing. And the drive shaft is tiny because that unit is kind of long....I'll tell you how it goes when I'm finished if your interested?
