just got a 66 mustang,no seatbelts, did it come with any?

Hi everyone! I just got a 66 mustang from the 2nd owner, this car doesnt have any seatbelts or any visible place where seatbelts have ever been .I asked the man about it, he said it didnt come with any from the factory,,Is he right? I dont want a ticket especially for not restraining my 6 year old..
I want seatbelts BUT dont want to drill the car up, im torn but.... glad to have this car! what do I do?

Get some seatbelts. No car is worth the life of a person. even more so if it is your child.

I think he's full of s#$@. My 65 came with front and rear belts. The bolt hole for the front should be on the hump and door sill area. Has it been re-carpeted? Maybe the po covered them up. If so use your finger to feel for them.

It has been recarpeted. i have felt for holes, no luck..I will get seatbelts..I do want me and the family restained, as we have always worn seatbelts.I just want to take it for a stroll with my son,weCAN wait forthe belts to come in (just got the car yesterday..)my husbandhas found some aftermarkets for 26.00 a seat..thats well worthsafety..thanks!I appreciate it.

I just found the seatbelts for the back, under the seat part! woo hooo i feel better now! maybe the seatbelts for the front are under the carpet!doubt it..
I dont know why the man, an 81 year old would of told me it didnt come with any, guess cuz I am a girl..lol..

You need to crawl underneath that car and find the holes, or pull the back seat out and they will be where the rear wheelwells start.My understanding was that it was in 1966 that seatbelts became mandatory for all cars, but before that they were an option.

Yes ! Body style 63 or 65 came with c6oz 62611a72 or c7oz those are the push button type prior to 3/28/66 after 3/28 and up until 5/16 it was c6oz or c6zz76611a72 thats hard top coupe or fastback , body type 76 , convertible was c6zz76611a72 ... now , those are just basic part numbers , they could have been retractable or non retractable And center push button release or buckle release depending on what hardware they were ordered with. they could have come in any stock color . The vast majority at that time used black . But either way get those belts before you hurt yourself or someone else . BE SAFE , Bill

OOps ........ those were only the front , backs are chronologically : c6az-62613b84 prior to 1 / 3 /66 , then c6az -63613b84 to 5 / 16/ 66 then c6zz-65613b84 after 5/ 16 / 66 . good luck ,Bill

The front inner seat belt bolt can be found by looking up from underneath either side of the drive shaft and poking a 'short' point (an ice pick, but be careful) thru the not plate and thru the carpet to mark inside. The outer bolt is located on the vertical part of the door sill. Slide the seat forward and poke around intil you 'feel' the hole. The bolts are a special hex head 7/16-20 x 1 1/2 inch long with steel and rubber washers. You can get a kit from National Parts Depot. I also recomend you subscribe to Mustang Monthly Magazine.
