Just bought '69 Mach 1
I finally sold my '96 GT, and bought a '69 Mach 1. I got a thing for the old cars. Car is mainly stock. Has rebuilt 351W, new exhaust, 3.25 gears. It's absolutely gorgeous. I'll post pics when I have them. The dealer tells me the trans is an FMX. I'm completely unfamiliar with this type of trans. Anybody got any info or opinions on it?

Mine has the FMX, which is the basis for the AOD in that it uses planetary gears. It has a heavy cast iron case and won't break no matter how I abuse it. Finding performance parts for it is very hard due to the popularity of C6s and C4s. It came with all auto 351 stangs, windsor and cleveland...

The 'cleveland's better than windsor' argument was true long ago when performance parts for the windsor were not available. Now it is the opposite, since clevelands were made for only a few years and windsors for decades. A relatively cheap cam and intake combo from will do wonders, especially with modern aluminum heads...

ORIGINAL: Soaring Yeah, welcome to the world of long passed muscle cars. The 96 GT is a woosie compared to the 69. However, understand that the windsor engine is less than you could have with a 351 Cleveland. Just wanted to make you aware of that.
No Shelby mustangs ever had an FMX. Shelby left his relationship with Ford before the FMX was used. Those were just Cobra Mustangs in 69 and 70 Everyone still refers to them as Shelby Cobra mustangs, but just as a keeper of useless facts I though I would point out that they were in fact just "Ford Cobra Mustangs"
As for 351c vs 351w debate....you guys have fun on that one....I'm tired of proving that you can get the same power out of each motor but end up spending a little less if you owned a 351c (but not enough to really make a difference).....you always build what you have to keep the costs the lowest if that is a factor.
