Default DTC and gear aligmnent

i am doing my engine ( 289 ) now and was wondering about something,
when i align the the gear of the distribution chain ( the 2 dots on the gear) i thought the first piston (drivers side) should be in DTC position:

but to my surprise it is not the 1st piston but the second one (drivers side) that is in tdc.

when i checked it with the harmonic balancer i could see that if i made 1st piston at DTC the timing markings where not in place on balancer.
but when aligning the 2 dots on gear , timimg markings where also at poiint where they should be ...........only the second piston is at DTC.

is this something normal with ford engines.. or why can it be like this?

thank you
arthur
