Default RE: Value of a 5 bellhousing bolt 289?

Thanks for the extra info everybody. For anybody wondering, the 289 and 4 speed are not original to the car, although whatever previous owner did the swap, they made sure to get close to period correct dated components. The 4 speed is 64/65 also.

Its all going bye bye anyway, to make room for a newer 302 (331 or 347) and a T-5 (or Tremec, I havent decided yet).

Default Voided VIN car

There are many examples in later years where Ford substitued engines and transmissions where demand overpowered supply. The use of 5 bolt engines (and transmissions) was another example and their use could be expected into the 65 model year, possibly in cars with early 1965 date codes. In other word, expect the unexpected in judging. I've seen examples of assembly line VIN changes (I sent this one off to Jim Smart and Jim Haskell) where the original VIN was 'xxxxx' out and changed from 5F08D192898 to 5F08F205641. The conclusion was simple, a blown 260engine in a convertible was replaced by a 289. Ford was in the business of selling cars and not storing unused inventory.

Jim:

I own the car you speak of now. I am its third owner and after the owner in CA passed away it went to a family member in FL. When he passed away I bought the car. Anyway, the car has the F code engine in it which is the 260. I appreciate your information in this post so I know what happened with the VIN #. Do you or anyone else have anymore thoughts on the car or history I am unaware of yet?

We are still trying to figure out why it has a 1962 Ford Galaxie Mirror mounted on the driver side where it is. The folks we bought it from said they believed the dealer put it on the car like that in 1964> (?)

Than you,

Mossy
