sounds like someone played lets make a mustang out of parts. my mustang is a 67 but the title says 68 what i found out was the ford dealer here had left over 67s they never got sold so they marked them as a 68 and sold them the next year.from the factory it was a inline 6 c4 probably why it didnt sell. id try talking to the dmv see if they can give you a new vin youll have to licenses it as a kit car that way.or call the guy you bought it off and ask why did he sell you a car with non matching vins.if they give you any lip talk to the cops its not legal to sell a car like that falls under the lemon law in most states

What no one has mentined and you better be careful is.

you have the title for the 68, so you know its all good and clear

the 67 on the other hand, if reported stolen you would lose your car since the body vin is infact factory and the dash one looks tampered, i would be doing a call in to the local dmv or pd or even do a search to see what that vin pulls up if the 67 vin pulls up clean you can just do a lost title request and then take of the 68 vin in the window, if the 67 comes back hott! ! i would be contacting the place you got it!

i am guessing the 67 was totaled at one time and so was the 68 but the 68 was never reported so they used the cleaner of 2 titles to get more money ! !

well the original owner was a mechanic i used to know. He moved to a diff state now and i have no way of contacting him. I guess i'll just have to talk to the SOS or the DMV

Sounds like your in a bit of a pickle..... Keep your hopes up tho. The guy could have lost the title and figured it was easier to take a rotted out 68 and screw the VIN plate in instead of applying for a new title

id try runing the vin on the door see if it shows anything like stolen or totaled. if you know his full name and state he moved to try one of the online phone books you might find him if hes listed

Carefully. If you know a cop very well, you could have him run the numbers in your statesvehicle database. As indicatedin a prior post, there is a danger. If it was reported as stolen, you lose.If you have the sellers name, do a google search on him first. And did you look at the 'hidden' VIN numbers under the fenders?

call your insurance company. They run them all the time.

i had both vins ran. Both came up clear and unregistered.
Dont see how that can happen since i have the title and plates under the '68 VIN.
Now i'm having my buddy running my plates to make sure everything is ok.

tag it with whatever vin that you got the title for.or you can apply for a title for the other one but if any cop gives you any lip over the door vin not matching just say the car was wrecked and door came off a junkyard car.
