289 will not start
Here's the situation, my car was running beautifully until about a week ago when i started to notice it started kind of funny. It seemed a bit hesitant to fire but always did, then it would run fine. This morning i went out to my car and couldnt not get it to start. It would turn over but would not fire, just continues to crank. My first that was that it was flooded so i held it open full throttle but didnt get any love. I live in CA and its been really wet lately so i think that might be the problem. I checked the distributor cap, all the wires, and the coil for moisture but they all seemed dry. I also checked the fuel pump but its working more than fine. Also when i took off the air filter the carb had some gas in the intake area. Do you guys have any ideas what it might be? I'm stumped. Any help is greatly appreciated!! P.S. sorry for writing so much.

RE: 289 will not start
I had this happen to a friend of mine years ago. It turn out to be a little bit off water on the rotor. I could not see it, but it would not start. I would replace the distributor cap and rotor. That may not be it, but it a good place to start.

If you have an air compressor and a tool to blow out stuff, then use it on the distributor area as well as the wire ends and insert to the coil , etc. If you have points, then try cleaning them with some fine sandpaper. It sounds like an ignition problem, and not a fuel problem.
