HOLLEY 570 CHOKE/TUNING Q.
Hey fellas, I've finally gotten my v4 holley street avenger installed and have some specific questions regarding this system because i'm really trying to do this all myself even though it is all quite new to me ( I've never even owned a carburated car heh)...
I have completed installing the 570 holley street avenger and my question is about the choke. Is it required that I hook up the a
utomatic choke (+) side to a switchable 12v source that only completes a circuit when the car is running, if i don't intend on needing it?...Reason i ask is I have installed the carb myself without hooking up the choke at all, and although the choke seems to start closed when i cranked it, with very minor tuning the car seemed to run very good, only small problem was a little bit of a high idle speed which i believe i can bring down with adjustment. But my dad sugested that since we live in AL I wouldn't need a choke at all so with his suggestion we tried to tune/drive it with the choke wired in the wide open position...Well after a trip to see my fiance's family, it's driving horrible, bad responce/almost chokes out with gas. If i intend on not needing the electric auto-choke, can i leave it alone and not hook it up to a 12v source and it run fine and not hurt anything?? It seemed best that way. And if this is the case i'd love some tips on tuning that are specific to holley's...thanks

Sorry guys for the long post, I really appriciate anyone who takes the time to offer advise, main Q is in color...thanks

RE: HOLLEY 570 CHOKE/TUNING Q.
just hook up the choke and be done with it. if the motor is warm, it will be in the full open position anyhow. plus, even though your in AL it will help if you plan on driving it in the winter month(s).

so the choke will open with the engine warm if it isn't hooked up?...I'm sorry if this seems petty to you, but this is my daily driver so i don't have alot of down time to work on it with my summer working 65+ hours a week... And i don't have the cable to hook this up yet.

You can leave the choke in and adjust it wide open. It will take a little longer to reach operating temperature in the summer and a lot longer in winter. You will also learn new words when your car stalls.

And get a dyno tune done. They can adjust the main jets, to give you the optimum A?F ratio, and set your idle, timing, and points if you have them. One of the advantages you pay for with the Street avenger series, is their adjustablity. They have the quick change secondary sring system, which should aslo be tuned when you dyno it. Make the most of you carby. Best $$ you will spend.
