wait maybe it is installed wrong...so when the spring/plunger assebly is compressed its supposed to be off? well when i press on the pedal it compresses the spring/plunger and when i take my foot off the pedal it is compleatly released.

well i just got the genius idea to look at my moms '65 vert and compare the two[&:]. well its installed correctly so i swapped our switches and i guess mine is bad because it works fine with hers. looks like i need to make another order at mustangs plus

No, it should be on, since it is compressed when you brake ... you are basically closing the contact when you brake, and opening it back up when you release

I went out and looked at mine and you're right, I had it backwards. It really doesn't matter, what you are looking for is the proper operation of the switch internals. I apologize for the bum info.
Hold the thing in your hand, put the plug back on, push the plunger in and out and look for the brake lights to go on and off.
If they do it's the setup that's wrong somehow.
If they don't it's the switch.

here are some details on it if youre interested. its a 1965 A-code 289. my mom bought it from the original owner in '82, it is compleatly orininal exept for one re-paint sometime in the '70s. people who know mustangs are generally impressed with the originality but its only stayed this original because my mom is afraid to let anyone touch it lol.
