Default 289 HP Increase after rebuild?

Could anyone tell me if there are any significant driving changes, such as power when it comes to an engine being rebuilt properly? My 289 that threw a rod comes back from the shop Monday so i can put it back in and was wondering if there will be any noticable HP increase, with the slightly bigger touque cam and re-honed cylinders and what-not...Just wondering, never done this before! thanks

P.S. Either way, it will def. be back and funnnnn to drive: 289, tri-y headers, stock 289 heads, 570 street avenger holley, glass packs, etc.

With stock heads it'd not gonna be night and day(unless the old engine was running on dead cylinders with crap compression). With a little bit of a cam you'll notice it'll run better, should be a bit more peppy and seem a little quicker, but it won't be anything huge. Now, if you have a decent cam in it, and put some good heads on, that'll be worth anywhere from 50-100hp. Just make sure you break your new cam in properly if it's flat tappet(if it is, then shame on you for not going with a roller cam [8D])

until it loosens up it may feel slower if your 289 was running good before.

i think he'll notice a bump. usually replacing a 40 year old motor with a fresh one is worth something all by iteself. add in the slightly larger cam, the holley, better exhaust and he should be pretty damn happy once he breaks it in and can get on it

A blue-printed/balanced engine will give quite a hp increase, actually. But, if it isn't specified, most shops won't do both to the degree really needed to make that difference.
