Never said you won't have any torque but just not 500 flbs at 2k rpms kinda torque. Thats what will blow your tires off.

haha yeah thats a no no , Well it seems alot of the ppl here are ultra power and torque enthusiast.

I already had an argument and ppl basically screamed 351...

and said 347s are not worth it .

what do you think ?

I like short stroke small blocks. They love nitrous and blowers, and can take a tremendous amount of abuse due to the short stroke. You can easily get a streetable 325-350 like SS4LUNCH said. If you select the right parts you can actually get 300-320hp at the wheels out of a 302 and still have it quite streetable with carburetion. I'm putting down about 315rwhp with a 302 that has plenty of torque everywhere and I shift at 6,000rpm. It's not a dog on the bottom end at all, but it's also not the torque beast that a 408 is either. Smaller engines weigh less and rev faster than bigger engines, different ways of making power. In the end you're better off with a lower hp engine and good traction than a higher hp engine and bad traction. Without traction all the power in the world is completely useless. My personal preference is a well built 302 with boost if you want the high power numbers, 500hp or above. It has all the power of a bigger engine, with all the advantages of a smaller engine, though it does cost more

I love my 408... it won't hook up for anything, but if its babied through 1st and 2nd its a whole lotta fun. I've gone through two 289's and loved them both, especially the revs, but brute torque sure is fun...

I would build a 351 before a 347 for street reliability reasons. If I was building a small block stroker with no intentions of major racing effort, I would build a 331. There are plenty of happy 347 owners but those components have issues. The pistons have poor ring package due to the wrist pins having to be so high on the piston and the rod ratio is crap. Racers will usually replace rings as a cost of doing business but not on a street engine.

difference is with the 302 i was thinking of stroking and i heard about it not being very stable
, but with the 351 i could just easily Not stroke and totally have a killer engine with around 380 hp yeah?

351 block is alot stronger too... or so I've been told... I'd go that route.

hmm ok so 351 wins this fight again , So all i would have to do to that 351 is add some cyl heads intake carb all that and not stroke and still keep those tires on the ground right ?
