Cracks in the Shock Towers, help please

You will not be able to access the rear of the towers with the engine in place. You'll most likely be able to weld the fronts of each side , but it'll be a bitch ! Trailer it down to the shop and get one of your buddies who's a certified welder to do it for you. Post a pic or two......

Oh yeah, one other thing. The factory welds were not some little mamby-pamby 2 inch bead. They wereat least 12inches long and tied the innersupport to the outer structure. I agree with Daze that you should drill out the ends etc ... BUT , you'll probably be laying down a bead much longer than your crack if you want to do it right.

Here's a pic of what I'm talking about. This tower has been welded on by a butcher at some point in its' life. Notice the ugly welds probably done by a mechanic at a Ford dealership standing upside down on his head trying to weld with the engine in place. Also notice the torched hole in the front so someone could grease the upper control arms. The factory welds run the length of the support ending right about the top and bottom. Hope this helps.....

yeah, my dad told me they crack there really easy when people put bigger tires on there cars... he had one many years ago and it cracked because he put bigger tired on the back.... he just welded it...

my 68 had stress cracks in the shock towers like yours it most from a hard life or hard driving.i did like daze said on mine and used one of these http://www.mustangdepot.com/OnLineCa...tower_kits.htm
