ball joints

RE: ball joints
If they are original they should be 4 bolt, but if at some point in the life of the car the UCAs were replaced they could be 3 bolt. Only for sure way is to look. If they are original they are probably riveted in and the rivets will need to be drilled out. If they have been replaces than they will be bolted on. Either way I would put new grade 8 hardware on when replacing them.

RE: ball joints
are the ball joints for a 6 cylinder (64 1/2) convertible, be the same as a v8? do you know what all suspension/front end stuff you would have to change, to switch it to v8? i have a complete set of spindles/brakes/bearings, the sway bar is larger i know, what about all the other stuff?
thanks!
also,...........how tough is it to change out the springs, when you have everything out of the way? any special tools needed, dont want to "bo-ing!"

RE: ball joints
5 month old update to a random post...not bad...
There have been countless articles/write-ups on what to do to switch out to a V8. I would suggest starting by reading all of those. That should answer every question for you.
For the springs, you'll need a spring compressor. There's basically 3 types. Internal claw, External claw, and bolt in. bolt in is probably safest, followed by internal, and just never ever use an external. The force held in these springs can easily kill you if you don't pay attention and take care of everything, so be safe!

RE: ball joints
+1 to DAZE.The later UCA's are 3 bolt. Jim W's photo shows 4 bolt ball joints that have rivets. Typically you drill them (rivets) out 1/4 to 5/16 drill bit and then the new ball joits come with bolts, lockwashers and nuts. Do not forget to put the lock washers on.
