a stroker is an engine that has had a different crank or rods put in it to give it a longer stroke

this longer stroke gives the engine more displacement

most people stroke 302's out to either 331 or 347, its a great way to get more cube's without boring your cylinders

^ well, both of those still require a .030 bore. basically you dont gain enough cubic inches to give an increase in power by boring, but by using a crankshaft with a longer stroke you create a larger displacement engine (in the same small package that was once your old motor)

basically a 302 is a stroked 289 (from ford), and a 331 or 347 are strokers based of 302 blocks. if you use a 351 block, you can make a 393, 408, or 427

a 351 stroked to 408 is a pretty dang good engine

acually a 302 stroked its 327 and 342, when you bore it .30 over and then stroke it, its 331, 347. so if you just stroke it your really losing out on 4-5 cubic insches, a whopping 2hp?

Strokers also suffer from more stress. The factory engineers never designed them to handle that much stroke, so it tends to be a limiting factor in producing engine power(before stuff breaks anyway), though you can still make a crapload. It's just a bit harder on the rotating assembly and the webs.Generally with stroker applications you prollywant to use a forged crank, since the extra stroke tends to flex the crankshaft more than was originally intended for it's size. You'd be suprised how much metal parts in the engine move around and flex under power. Strokers also tend to not only make more power, but do it in a lower rpm range.

And a 351W can also be made into a 372 as well as the others mentioned above. Cleves have a 366 stroker kit I think, but I dunno if there's one for the W

bigger bore+less stroke = better top end, bigger stroke+less bore=better torque and low end. most nascar engines actually destroke and increase bore a 3.4 stroke with a 3.060 is a popular combination for speedway racing because of the high horsepower needs and it also allows you to use less camshaft duration which gives the cars a little better torque off the corners.

how a engine gets its displacement is the bore x stroke= displacement stroker means you use a longer stroke even tho it looks like a 302 from the outside it can be up to a 347.

a ford 331 or 347 stroker motor is basically a chevy 350. the cranks have almost the exact same specs

The 331 has the same bore and stroke as a 0.030" overbore 327 (4.03" bore x 3.25" stroke), but the 347 (4.03 x 3.40) has no SBC counterpart, as Chevy never made a 3.40" crank. The closest to a SBC 350 (4.00 x 3.48) is the 351 (4.00 x 3.50).
