Default Shelby Paint job, and stripping a vinyl top...

Hey guys. This is my first post on the forum. I have two questions to ask. I have a 66' coupe with a vinyl top. I was wondering if any of you have had your mustang paint with a classic Shelby pint job, stripes and all. I just would like to have a ball park figure (excluding body work). I was hoping not to spend over $2,000 on the paint job.

My next question is about my vinyl top. i would like to strip it and make it a regular hard top. Let's say the metal under the vinyl is in good shape. Is it a lot of work to prepit for paint?

sand, prime, paint...if no rust or past paint is there, it should be very easy to prep...However on the cost you get what you pay for....Also, as far as most paint job goes, the more body work and the more you put into it before the paint hits the metal the better overall finish once completed. Investing to do this correctly is as important as a good paint job.

You are going to spend that $2000 on paint and supplies alone if you buy decent materials.

Welcome to the forums! I am not an expert so cannot really offer you sound advice but what Restomod87 said is true. I think you could get a very good paintjob for $6-8000. I am sure you could get the job done for $2-3000 but you would probably not be overly impressed with the work. You might even be able to get it done for a grand at someplace like Maaco but that would be a waste of money.

under the vinyl top youll find rust hopefully surface only if theres holes your in for it.stripes to me only belong on a fastback i have thought about something like the camaros had. they start on the hood end at the windsheld and start again at the backwindow and end on the truck nothing on the roof.

yeah good luck with that 2000.... you can pull off 4-5 g's for a real nice paint job, IF your car has little or no rust repair needed.
