Default 69 rear speaker hole cutting

so i hear you can put 6x9's in the rear of a 69 coupe, but i also heard you have to cut up a little bit to make a good fit. so if i had to do some cutting what would i cut it with?

A jig saw w/metal cutting blade should do. The kind with a scrolling cutting head.

i have a 70 and first i just mounted the 6X9 in the opening, then i enlarged the hole, amazing what a difference it made, it was like going from tiny 4 inch speakers to a really top dollar 6X9 set i used a air saw and took out the back seat to do it.

I recently saw that someone sells a panel with 6x9 mounts so you don't have to cut it up...

I BOUGHT A PACKAGE TRAY THAT HAS 6x9 MOUNTS IN IT (FROM MUSTANGS PLUS) BUT YOU STILL HAVE TO CUT THE METAL DECK FO INSTALL THE SPEAKERS

Ok in my 70 someone had cut the speaker hole out in the side panels for the rear seats.I think that is where he is talking about. The person who cut mine out didnt do a very good job and they need to be replaced.WhenI took them out of the car at the start of the restore I noticed they didnt quite fit into the panel. The 6x9's looked to be just a little bit too big.I too saw the panels at mustangs plus but havent actually seen them or put my hands on them to find out if they fit correctly or not.

If and when you do get some please leave some feedback about them asI am considering a new set for my car.
Thanks Jeff

i would not use a jigsaw, i would use a dremel tool, it allows for more precision and its a whole lot easier. i will take some pics of my 6x9 in my 67 i dont know if it will help, but it will be 3-4 days before i can get them.
