Default NO Spark...66 289gt...please help going nuts

ok,...long story short...

my uncle gave me a 1966 mustang gt 289 convertible with 42k original miles...car has sat for 19 years in his garage...

i drained all the oil, coolant and fuel, and replaced with new...

installed a new started selenoid, ignition coil, dis cap, dis rotor, battery, battery cables, plugs and wires...

turn key and car cranks over, but there is NO spark...

i have a voltage tester,..i was getting 12v at the + and - side of the coil with the key turned to on, after trying to start the car like 3 or 4 times i smelled a slight burning smell, like burned wire or something not sure but very very faint..

i checked the coil again and i am getting very low voltage at the + side and NONE at the - side now, also low voltage at the starter selenoid (altenator side)

any fuses to check? resistors? bad ignition switch? please help i am going nuts...

If you smelled a burning wire and a fuse went, it was cuz of a short, so replacing a fuse won't fix it(the short anyway). Look for a short, or a poor or corroded connection in the engine harness. If it sat for 19 years there's prolly corrosion on a connection someplace, cracked or broken wire/insulation etc

Im just throwing this out there, but next time take off the distributor cap and see if the rotor is spining when you turn it over, if it is not then your dowl on your cam probably broke.....but this is kind of out there, that happened to me.

Did youreplace the points and condensor? Not going to fix the short, but I assure you it needs to be done.

no i did not, but i am not getting spark out of the coil to begin with,...if there is no spark coming from the coil. new points and a condensor wont make a difference right now anyway right?

if i put the key to the ON position, what should the volts read at the positive side of the coil and the negative side of the coil?

well replaced the condenser and points today and WE GOT SPARK!, it will turn over and run for a couple seconds if i put fuel down the carb, and the line running to the carb is bone dry so i am assuming the fuel pump is bad....got one today and will try to install this week

can anyone send me a diagram of the dis firing order? i think mine might be off...
