AFAIK

white smoke is oil burning

black smoke is unburned fuel

sounds like you are running rich, carb adjustment
Actually, blue smoke is oil, white smoke is water. I have no idea what AFAIK means.

heres a check list
1) check the carb overall (tuned)
2)Check the jets
if niether of those fixes you problem, you need a new carb, and personally i would just go buy a new one. if your car is origional, stay autolite just for that , but if its modded (i dunno how with an I-6) go holley.

ok, if the vaccum lines are good, then let the pain begin of replacing the fuel pump, both of them. better safe than sorry.

Pain?!?! replacing a fuel pump is so simple especially on a 6 because there is so much room on the engine bay.
