another rear end question

Default another rear end question

i just had a post on rear ends, but i have another question. can i build my 8" rear to handle 500+ hp, with new gears and what not? or is my only option a 9"?

No the 8" wont handle 500 hp, You will need a well built performance 31 spline9".
What engine combo are you going with to get 500+ hp? What trans are you using?

Some people will say you can, but I haven't seen it... I'd go with a 9". They're bullet proof.

Junkyard.

94+ explorer 31 spline 8.8 (3.54:1, 3.73:1, 4.10:1) stock ratio's and you get disc drakes.

only problem with them (and 500hp) is twisting the tubes, Factory is a press fit, simply truss it or weld the tubes to the punkin.

This axle is 1/2" wider than a stock 1969 ford 8"

Most 9" you will find @ the JYD will be too wide (in stock form) so you must cut down, buy custom shafts, etc.

can you build it yes, but the cost effictiveness isnt to good, a stock 9 will be your best bet, a good build on the =800+
