A decent article, if a bit vague in areas. The bit about port volume vs. displacement and RPM was interesting.

It's not really a newb article, it doesn't discuss the issues in depth and uses terms that would be unfamiliar to many. Terms like "port volume" and "rod ratio". Issues like the effects of main journal size vs. RPM.

The article is 10 years old. Back then there were a lot fewer backyard mechanics (like me) who could afford to even think about stroking an engine! The article still mentions cutting down and "adapting" crankshafts to make a stroker. Now we can buy stroker assemblies "off the shelf" for just a little more than using similar parts to go back stock...

As for heads for a 408 stroker,, Victor Jr's all the way baby!!!
Yeah, it's amazing how things have changed. The engine I built back then is now pretty much outdated. Gone are the days of trying to scrounge up the best factory go-fast parts.

There's a book, How to Build Big-Inch Ford Small Blocks, that's fairly interesting. It has a list of suppliers of stroker kits and some info about each kit. I seriously considered building my 351W into a 427 but went with a 5.0L instead.

The thing with a stroker is if you plan on doing a street car with a blower or nitrous, it becomes almost pointless to get the extra cubes, since it's fairly unlikely you'll find the traction needed on the street. All engine though, strokers definately make power
