Engine Swapping I6 to 289
I have a 67 coupe with a locked up I6 enginein it. I have located a nice 289 here in town and wondered what all it takes to swap the engine over and approx. cost if anybody knows? Is it worth it or should I just look for another I6? Thanks in advance.

Without a donor car figure on about $6,000 to do wverything that needs to be done,,,, if you are frugal, do the work yourself, and a good junkyard buyer.
With $6,000 being a practical low amount, the sky is the limit for the high amount,,,, Here is a partial example of what my son and I spent doing ours..
Engine $6000
Tranny $1,900
Clutch and Bell Housing $650
Rear Axle $1,800
Radiator $300
Spindles $200
R&P Steering $1,300 (done in place of other required changes to steering)
We went basically all new, and my son and I basically split the expenses.....
IMO if you start with a good body it is a viable swap,,, if the I-6 body needs a bunch of work ($$), think twice....

67 the inline 6 and v8 used the same spindles you just gotta replace the hubs i believe. better to get a granada swap kit or 71-73 spindles there thicker then the rest.cheapest place to get a 8 inch or 9 inch rear end id trust is http://www.perogie.com/Rears.htm the price depends on if you can do it or your paying someone.

RE: Engine Swapping I6 to 289
I forgot to mention that the 289 engine is actually in a 1967 Ford Fairlane with 24,000 orginal miles on it and is in good running condition. I would use the engine, tranny and rear end. Not sure on what else might interchange. Just was not sure if there was a lot of modifications that would be needed in order to swap the engine out of the mustang in order to put the Fairlane's engine's. I believe the motor mounts would need to be moved, just not sure of the extent of the rest?
Thanks for all the input so far.
