1970 Mustang
Hi I'm about to buy a 1970 Mustang. The engine is a 4.9 L and I would like to put a smaller engine. If possible less than a 3 L engine. Is that possible ? (It might be a little stupid, but that's what I want)
Thanks for your answers and your help.

RE: 1970 Mustang
Thing is, I'm 18. And it's going to be my first car, so money is an issue here... Petrol for a 5.0 L is expensiv... That's why for a couple of years I'd like a smaller engine, and then later on put the 5.0 L back in. So what I was wondering was what kind of engine could I put in ? Any Ford engine 3.0L would do ? or should I use a specific type of engine....
Thanks again

RE: 1970 Mustang
because I live in Australia, and there aren't as many mustangs as in America... and I've got a limited budget, so I'm planing on getting a cheap one, used it with a small engine for a couple of years, and then build it up real nice with that 5.0 L engine... but I'll look into those i6 your pointed out.

An I6 is probably the way to go. The other option is to buy a crappy beater car to drive around while you take your timea nd build the mustang you want as you get money for it. Thats what I would recomend.

Yea, thought of that, but I'd have to put the car somewhere, and unfortunately I don't have a place to store it... So I can get that car I want and buy an i6 engine and swap them ? And keep the 5.0L for later ? That's possible ?

RE: 1970 Mustang
That is a shame. Here in the states, folks are giving away 6 cylinder motors and associated transmissions. Why not spend the money on upgrades to improve existing fuel economy (and performance).

RE: 1970 Mustang
It seems like you are going to spend as much or more money on finding and installing a new I6 motor as you would by just fixing up the 302. You dump all the money into the I6 and you will still have to buy gas.. and then pay more money when you put the 302 back in.. I dont think its a great Idea.. You will eventually spend more money by swapping than you would save with the I6 gas mileage..
However, You do what you want, its your car. But you should seriously put together a list of prices for parts, labor, blood loss, time, and more parts that you wouldnt think of.. and weigh them against just keeping your 302 and trying to make it more fuel (petrol) friendly. Seriously..
Where are you from in Austrailia?
