Ive got a 67 289 coupe v8 and i am looking to replace the stereo in it. However, all the stereos these places sell are crap and look like crap. So I was thinking about just having that faceplate that goes in front of the stereo cut to fit modern stereos. Any practical alternatives or suggestions?

I would suggest keeping your factory radio in place and finding an alternate place to mount an aftermarket. ie. under dash, in glovebox, etc.. If done right it can look very nice.

A friend of mine had a radio put in his car that looked like the original radio, but the tuner part also controled a cd changer installed in the trunk. Very sexy.

Try Johns Mustangs in texas. They have some of the best prices and huge selection. They carry those radios. www.johnsmustang.com Get there catalog it is perfect for the classic mustang owner. I live near sacramento ca we have sacramento Mustang J&K Mustank Amercan Mustang Mustang Pluse and a few others. I have used all of them and have found Johns to be by far the best. If there is better I have not found them yet.

Im looking for something a little more originallooking than that, preferralby analog. I found this guy in Dallas that can convert the original AM radio to an AM/FM/CD ready one with the CD in the back(obviously). Do you think this is legit?

I wish I could help you more, I lost touch with that friend after high school, and all I can tell you is that I saw it, but I have no idea where he got it.
