Default Things that don't work...

Idollar made a post that got me to thinking, how many small problems do you have with car. My list is so long I cant even remeber them all.

Tons of stray, dead wires running in dash, underhood, and in trunk
guages wont light up at night cuz the back of the panel is melted (probably due to all the wires[&o])
rear left turn signal dont work, the rear right one does until I hit the brakes, then it stops
random backfire that is a PITA to get rid of
completely rebuilt all 4 drum brakes, yet the car still pulls whatever direction it feels like at the time
rear quater window wont stay in the track, so I have to pull up the window instead of rolling it up
the PO lost most of the interior nuts, bolts, and screws so I have quite a few rattles
hood is bent, so to make it look straight, I have to push it down after I lower it
front bumper is bent up on drivers side

These are just some, but maybe a decent list of everyones problems will make my Mrs. see that small things are common

blueovalguy, thanks for starting this thread.
its nice to know that i am not alone!
fuel gauge (this one is eluding me)
aftermarket tach (this one should be easy)
no interior dome light
no courtesy lamps
no under hood light
no trunk light
no glove box light
no E-brake light
no high beam indicator
no existing windshield washer fluid reservoir to my knowledge
no headliner
broken left rear tail light lens (needs new one but I want it to match the right side so have not done this yet. priorities.)
bent up chrome on rear quarter panels (looks like PO installed with a hammer!) From what I have heard, replacing this chrome is a true PITA
unreliable quarter window mechanisms (solution: remove window cranks!)

i have been trying to fix the fuel gauge problem for the better part of a week with no success. i have traced the wire from the sending unit to where it appears to disappear into the fuse box along with a few other wires. The wiring diagrams have me tracing a yellow/white wire back from the fuel gauge to an assembly. Then there is another wire spliced from another assembly to this one. Sounds CONFUSING AS HELL, and it is! When I added power from another source to the gauge, the needle just soars way beyond the FULL line. I am thinking that I need to re-wire from the fuse box to the fuel gauge but I will have to tear into the wiring harness to find the wire. I am just afraid of making it up worse. (Like the tach, which worked fine before I started working on the fuel gauge problem yesterday! ha.

I think we should start a thread of EVERYTHING THAT WORKS FINE with our cars so we will feel better about things, hmm?
Have a great Saturday alla y'all.

Hey at least our cars LOOK great, right!? As long as I can drive it, I cant really complain. Just have to fill the gas tank often so the wife doesnt think I am going to get us stranded.

Good thread.

Lessee.

The first coupe (the Signal Flare Red one)

Turn signal rear passenger side intermittent
Gas gauge just quit
Speedo sticks at 40
Cowling leaks
Roof leaks
Floor pans in front are rough
Hood hinges are shot
Rear bumper needs plating
Windows in front are no longer easy to roll up or down
Tear in front drivers seat
Drivers side door doesn't fit right, but that the rear quarter
Saggy rear springs
Dripping Tranny

The project car:
Uh, yeah, this is so far
Wiring torn out by previous owner
Some weird fiberglass job done on the floors, waiting to blast it to see how bad it truly is
No interior, that might cause some chaffing
Primer needs to be stripped
Soft bondo job here and there
Tranny leaks (hey look twins!)
Holes in tranny tunnel
Big hole in inner front quarter below the old battery tray
Exhaust needs to be properly hung, or replaced
The Empire seems to have disconnected the light drive, and artoo has gone missing

Other than that I'm ready to cruise! Anybody wanna give me a push?

I'm down with the bitch session...

-Using oil
-heating up
-leaky tranny
-squeaks andknocks (suspension bushings, ball joints, etc. could stand replacing)
-reverse lights don't work

and I'll gladly start the "WHAT WORKS" session...

-fires right up every time (hope I do when I'm 41)
-SCREAMS when I mash the "loud" pedal (I love 3" exhaust and long tubes)
-shifts and drives best at full throttle 1/4 mile at a time
-shakes and reaks of attitude at idle (cam, cam, cam)
-not the fastest, best builtor most rare of classics, but she is loved by many and cherished by me
