Rack & Pinion steering - manual or power??

RE: Rack & Pinion steering - manual or power??
I have been looking into this also and have decided to go with RRS. Their kit comes with the necessary stuff to convert your current steering column so you don't have to buy a new one and also the inner tie rods. It will also work with my I6 setup and I don't have to change to v8 spindles like the Flaming River. They sent me a quote price of $2,023 which includes shipping for the online only special. Not a bad deal. Anyone using one of these, and if so how do you like it? It is power by the way.

I love my Unisteer, but the header clearance is a hassle. Thats why I'm still using cast iron manifolds.
Unisteer is now coming out with a new version, that does away with fitment problems, header clearance & turning radius loss. I imagine the steering effort will increase a little, possibly thats why they will be offering a Power unit too.

As far as race cars and power steering, yes, basically any race car these days that needs to turn(while racing)uses power steering. But that's mainly because the traction is so high with modern race tires and suspension, and the vehicles have so much power and speed, that the sheer force through the steering linkageovercomes most driver's abilities to cope without the use of power steering

Thanks Everyone for sharing your experiences AND opinions!
Rorin67,
Thanks for sharing your experience with a manual rack. I wondered about wheeling around a 3600lb car with a manual rack. The problem with making some of the decisions about what to build into your car, is really difficult without actually driving a car with the components in question installed. Coilover suspensions, airbag suspensions, transverse-mounted coilovers in the rear, Mustang II front ends, or just keep it stock and enjoy/deal - YIKES! So many choices! LOL So you have to rely on the opinions of others! LOL
I'm not really concerned with any HP losses with power steering or A/C - I'll be running a 427 Windsor small block, so there will be ample torque and hp to go around! ;-) Besides, I remember traveling cross-country as a child on summer vacations, with my folks, in the back of a 66 Pontiac without A/C, and only an AM radio. :-)

Idollar, your coupe; is that Nightmist Blue?? Reason why I ask; my coupe's original color is Nightmist Blue. The interior is some sort of two-tone light blue / dark blue - a really rocking 60's look! LOL
Nice Coupe, by the way.
