Default T-5 into a 66 coupe ........... details please

OK guys here's where I need a little help.

A friend of mine has a super nice 66 coupe with a 302 and a 4 speed out of a 79 Mustang. He wants to make the swap to a T-5 that he removed from an 86 Mustang. He has the original T-5 shifter etc ...

We understand that the drive shaft will need shortened etc ... What are the secrets to making this swap and what factory parts will work ? Heis not willingto butcher the floor for shifter relocation etc ...

What existing parts can he use ? Flywheel, bellhousing, clutch and pressure plate , crossmember etc ?

Thanks for the help, Dean

I wouldn't call it butchering.... but some slight cutting of the floor is going to have to happen, at least it did in my 67. Read the article in fordmuscle the online magazine or whatever that is. It clears alot of things up. Also check out moderndriveline.com

Everything mentioned can be reused but the crossmember will need to be changed out to one that will accept the T4 and still bolt to your frame member. When reusing your bellhousing, an adapter plate will be needed to allow the T5 to bolt to the bellhousing and also move it back a bit. Driveshaft may or may not needing shortening. Wait on that until the trans is in. The floor may or may not have to be trimmed for the shifter. I made the swap and had to trim the opening a bit on the right hand side and front to accomodate the shifter but the trim was about 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch and didn't go outside the reinforcing ring underneath.
As mentioned, read up on the www.moderndriveline.com site
