Body Panel, Car Choosing help
I'm trying to buy another classic after having to sell my 65 and 66 coupes also my 95 GT Vert when I moved from Jersey back to Michigan, sad day that was.
Right now I'm looking at a 67 coupe with the original 289 with a fairly recent rebuilt. Its a 3 speed auto and a vinyl top, also the paint looks in good condition. The only problems the owner said were with the car was that it needs a new driver side shock, some brake work, and a little interior work. The only rust is a small spec above the rear wheel well. The guy is asking $5000 obo. The other car is a 69 Cougar XR7. Non-original drivetrain, it now has a 302 with the 4-speed behind it. Nothing mechanically wrong with it but it needs a new paint job, some interior work. The rust is more of an issue, floor pans are damaged and driver side door is beginning to bubble in the front corner. Hopefully the door rot is a small part that can be patched, but the rest of the rust is where the welding won't be visible and is still useable at this point.
With either of these cars I plan to put away for the winter strip, repaint and rebuild it. I like the idea of the cougar because its a manual and its not original and I wouldn't feel guilty modifing it. Also you don't see too many on the road ever. The problem is I don't know any part supplier for the cougar, I know many are interchangable with the mustang but not the exterior body. I normally went with NPD for mustang parts.
I'm pretty well split between them, I need some opinions to decide. I haven't seen either one yet, I'm going tomorrow afternoon to see them.
