Default Timing cover oil dipstick hole plug

The timing cover on my 69 302 has a metalplug in the dipstick hole. I don't know why it's there but I need to remove it.
Any one know the best way to get it out. I thought about drilling a smallhole in it and inserting a screw and pulling it out. Think that might work??
Any other ideas

You have the right idea but drilling=metal shavings, reguarless how small of a hole. Maybe a sharp awl or pick then a scew or corkscrew. Just an idea.
