Your sugestions please...
I am looking to redo the (scuffed and rusty)door panels in my 65Coupeand was wonderig what exactly is the material covering the metal parts (see pix) is it a plastic coating of some sort? Can I restore it's ' Texture'?
What in your opinion would be the best way to go about it and whatpaintshould I use?
Also, What paint should I use on the dash (metal part) in order to achieve the original satin finish?
Has anyone any experience with theEastwood brand?
Thanx

yeah, just a good sand and repaint job and your set. as for what type of paint, im not too certain but i think what ever you use will be fine seeing as how its interior and is protected from the elements.

I agree with part of what Waffles said. The texture, from what I've been told somewhere along the line, is stamped in the steel during production. It's not a plactic coating of any kind. It's not added later, it IS the steel. Sanding will remove that texture resulting in a smooth piece of metal. That's why it's usually completely smooth where people rest there arm on the drivers door while cruising over 40+ years. The only way to fix that is replace the door shell, or get creative during the painting process with some saran wrap or something to add a texture to the paint after it gets tacky. It won't be perfect, but I've heard of some creative methods. Good luck!!!

If you use a paint stripper and a brass brush (or stiff plastic), you can remove the paint, but not damage the texture of the metal. It does take some time, but its worth it. Sanding will damage the texture.

Aircraft stripper, drill with a wire brush. When you prime, keep it VERY light, also keep the paint light also as too much will fill the texture. Single stage like a 933 Black (Dupont) with about 25% flattner will give the right low gloss finish.
