Default Help

I am getting ready to start "working" on my 1966 (hince the sn). I am wondering how much trouble it would be to replace my 200 in-line 6 with a 289? I know where i can find one as long as i can take it out of the car it is mine. What would be involved in this process of switching? Would i have to redo the suspension? How much trouble would that be also?

Welcome to the forum. There are several previous posts by folks who have done it. ( in the FAQ I believe)Some new suspension and brake parts will be required and it's as hard as your skill level allows. You will need some mechanical experience.

If you are serious about doing it, your best bet is to buy a junker 289 car to pillage parts from.

You can replace the entire suspension and brakes (upgrading to disc up front) for about $2k. After that you'll need rearend, accessory brackets, pitman arm, and a few other things that slip my mind right now.

your looking at about 4-5k on a complete swap.....i did mine for 2800, but i have many connections in the junkyard world, and the only thing i amlacking is a 9" rear to be complete.......shop around that is the key for all of it.
