"dealer gt"...cool or stupid?
First, is there such thing as a "dealer GT"? is there a difference I can pick out between a real gt and a dealer gt? I know quite a lot about all the options and differences on a GT down to the "punched out" holes for the fog lights. But is there a way I can tell if it really is a dealer GT and not a GT clone?
and are dealer GTs even desireable or are they just stupid clone crap.

RE: "dealer gt"...cool or stupid?
I could be wrong but my understanding is that a "dealer GT" is just a car that was originally sold with GT package/features. Some guys will sell cars claiming that it is GT but they really just added all the equipment to make it appear to be a GT. So "dealer GT" would be a good thing.
If I am not mistaken, the door codes (at least on the classics...) should tell you what the body/trim package was on the original vehicle.
Feel free to correct me if I am wrong on any of these points.
Cheers.

A dealer GT, wont have all the detail things a real GT has. The equipment that define a GT came as a factory installed package, many things a dealer would never even going to try & duplicate. And actually, a "Real" GT, has more signifance(because of car collectors) today, than on the dealers lot, ever did.

A car that is a real GT from the factory will have it show up on the Marti report because it will be attached to the VIN(warranty number). A dealer GT has no added value or way to track down, it will just show up as a normal mustang. All it was, was the dealer adding on a few things, adding no more value than if you did it.
With being more collectable and valuble than normal mustangs, no because there is no way to prove anything. Real GT's are actually kind of rare, not many were made from the factory.

Here's a link to the KARs site that may help you determine a real GT. The article also explains what a dealer GT is.
The only true way to verify a factory GT is with the body tag. Only the New Jersey plant used these tags with regularity.
Marti reports aren't available for '65-'66 Mustangs.

+1 on the 65-66 marti reports(or lack of). 65-66 a and k code cars were modiefied by the dealerships to be gts because they could sell the cars for more. they have all the correct gt equipment including interior decore group, handeling, etc. they are concidered true gts as far as i know.

RE: "dealer gt"...cool or stupid?
Partly very wrong because if it is a 65 or 66 there are no records for these cars.Ford destroyed all the records on the first three 3 years of mustangs. Why?Noone knows. However, this makes it impossible to get a marti report for anything older than 67.
