Default tranny swap - new guy Question

Hi - thanks for comments on my other posts. Still looking for my very own mustang, and am considering one that is a resto-mod car, well documented and clean, with all the thingsI want on the car with one big exception - the transmission. It's got a 5 speed Tremec, behinda crate 302 claiming to be putting out around 375hp. (before anyone hassles me, it's because i want my wife to be able to drive it from time to time and she avoids driving all my other cars because they are manuals).

I am wondering what the ballpark costs might be to do a swap and if you had a choice, what transmission would you go with if it were you.

thanks!

I'd drive it as is until you grenade the T5, meanwhile saving for a G-Force T5 to swap in It'll be a direct swap, and it'll hold 375hp without any problems.

It sounds like his wife wants to drive it, and she doesnt want to learn to drive a stick. Ie he wants an automatic. You have a few choices. AOD, which is an automatic overdrive, C4, which is a 3 speed auto, and FMX or C6, both of which are larger, heavier and soak up more power than the other two. Durability shouldnt be an issue with any of them provided they are fresh. The C6 isnt easy to find with the small block bolt pattern, so think $$$ there.

Do you want to keep the OD or does that not matter because you have 3.00 gears in it?

I am indifferent on the Overdrive, and you're right, this is about the wife - she can drive stick but gets intimidated when it is one with lots of power. The other modification I would want to make is 3-point seat belts.

I presume I can find the interior components pretty easily (maybe not inexpensively - but thats life).
