Vinyl Top to Hard Top?

Vinyl Top to Hard Top?
I have a 1970 mustang grande, 351 cleveland. I wanted to know it its possible to turn the vinyl top on top of the roof to be turned into a hard top. The sheetmetal under the vinyl is depressed into the top of the car. Can i somehow use some kinda "filler" of some sort or does any company sell a sheetmetal roof already premade that i can just weld onto the existing roof so everything is "flush" with the trim and windows? I'm only 17 but i know alot about cars but i don't know everything. Lookin for some pro/elderly advise...........help

RE: Vinyl Top to Hard Top?
You could use body filler in there, depends on how deep the dents are though.. I fixed my daily driver roof with a slide hammer if you can get your hands on one. You actually make a very small weld to the roof in the middle of the dent (you have to grind down to bare metal) and pull it up. You just keep moving along through the dent until you pull it up or just very slightly depressed and then fill over it with body filler. It can be done. Roofs are a bitch to fix, but vinyl tops suck because they'll rust your roof. Hope that is helpful.

It realy depends on how deep the "depressed" area is.My 66 was a black vinyl top and i made it a solid..Nothing too bad for mine...Its just alot of hours and the longest long board you can find to keep everything level.
