Default Chilton's Manual Copyright 1976: Page 19

I don't know if anyone else has a 1965-73 Mustang manual that is this old, but on page 19, the introduction to tune-up and troubleshooting there is a picture of a Mustang. It is like a mustang I have never seen before. It is a fastback with what-appears-to-be a chopped roof, teverything is a few inches lower. There is also an emblem and/or gas cap on the left quarter of the roof. The mirror is also in a strange location, seems to be mounted higher and more rearward. Taken with phone:

I have a picture very similar to that in a Mustang book I have. I'll have to look when I get home.

I thought that looked familiar. It's very similar to this:

The Chilton picture looks like the same car with a more "normal" front clip.
Found this too just for the heck of it.

Looks kinda like a Challenger.

Wish I had a scanner..

I dont know anything about those cars but they are pretty sweet. I like that one in the Chiltons manual and that 72 Milano is pretty sweet also. Anyone know if those cars were actually built. Never heard of them but I am no Mustang historian/scholar/aficianado.

Here is a nifty link with some Mustang prototypes from different eras.

Check it out.

The front end looks as if it was stolen offa thunderbird. Also, did you notice the squared head lights,
I am waiting for the grille to open up and show the missles ready to fire. Go 007
