Default Need help with a new dizzy

I have had my car for a few years. It sat formost of the summer due to the heat where I live and then I went on deployment to the Gulf for 5 months. With that out of the way my car ran very well when I picked it up so I never checked timing.

Here is the bottom line, I have a stock Ford Single Point Dizzy with Pertronix installed. The breaker plate/weights have been removed so that the car is always at total advance.I reset it to 35 but may drop it to 30 until I can get a new dizzy.

Here are my questions.

Should I have the dizzy rebuilt? My thoughts are no, since I am not going for concours.

Should I get the Pertronix 289 aluminum dizzy? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FORD-...QQcmdZViewItem

Should I go with an MSDelectronic setup - I would need some recomendations.

You should be able to buy a reman distributor for not much at AutoZone, Napa, etc.

Might be a good idea since you already have a Pertronix setup.

I am a fan of the Mallory HEI setups, but there are lots of MSD fans on here who can fill you in on these setups....

I like my MSD ready-to-run, but I don't see any reason you need to spend that much money in your case. I'd go with JMD's idea and pick up a reman. Nothing wrong at all with the factory setup and a Petronix unit.

good idea on the stock replacement, those pertronix distributors have a tiny (thin) locking pin holding the gear in place that is not nearly close to the thickness needed.

But another low budget option is the ford Duraspark dist and module. Early 1980's cars had the right distributor gear for the regular cams. One year, around 1986-7? had the hardened gear for a roller motor.
i went to the salvage and got a setup for 25.00 and put it in that evening, i think i had to but a new module box but it was cheap enough...

What is dizzy? An Arabic or Islamic word? Or Hispanic no doubt.

You kids need to learn some proper English. Try dist. You are smart. You can do it. Practice 50 times per day.
