Default 65/66 vent window division bar weatherstripping

I need to replace the vent window division bar weatherstripping on a 65 mustang. I know they make a special tool for the rivets. Is there another way to pop the rivets in without the tool??????

The tool is for installation of the rivet that holds the top piece of rubber in. If that rubber piece is still in good shape, leave it. The vertical piece of weather strip is held in by four little rivets that are supplied with the weatherstrip. They are a PIA to install correctly. I've used regular pop rivets and they look ok but the key is the backside needs to be really flat because the window runner sits there. Since then, I've found some really neat little rivets at Ace Hardware that do the trick. They have a flat head and two legs that can be spread out once inserted in the hole. It allows the window runner to sit flat and the head of the rivet is small and not obtrusive, like stock.

That said, I borrowed the tool from a friend for that top rivet.

The rivets for the seal are different than regular pop rivets. Instead of the tool pulling the shaft out, it presses in, crushing the rivet.

The tool costs about $100 from NPD and the like which is a painful pill to swallow for just a one-time use. I, however, swallowed that pill. I will loan the tool out to trustworthy souls who pay shipping there and back and use it in a timely manner.

If interested, drop me a PM with your info.

BTW, in addition to changing the seal at the division bar, it is a good time to replace the small one at the top.
