Default cost of AOD

Well, I'm waiting to hear back from this place that makes all kinds of trans adapters and if it works out might get an AOD for my I6 if they can make an adapter for it. My question is though how much will a good built AOD cost? I'm not racing it just planning on cruising in it, but am thinking of getting the aluminum head they've developed at fordsix.com which would bump up power. Where is a good place to get one strong enough for my application and how much should it cost? Thanks! If this doesn't work I guess it's gear vendors...

ummm, sorry to tell you, but well, i dont think you can find an AOD you can break with a I6, lol

i mean, maybe turbo it with the alum. head, but its kinda a six popper from the 60's. you should prob be able to find an AOD anywhere really for the power, as far as i know, they were all ready for an 8 cylinder

You will have to do more than a turbo and the aluminum head to worry about an AOD. A stock one is designed to stand around 400-450hp, I'm sure even with alot of mods to a 8 you can get there but with a 6, you have alot longer to go. Sorry I'm not bashing on 6's, I used to have one, but I'm just being realistic. I know you have to spend thousands to get a SBW up to 450hp, I don't want to know what it takes to get a 200 or 250 up there.

I have smashed 2 stock aods in stock fox bodys and i have seen this http://www.mustangmonthly.com/featur...age/index.html 240k on the aod with no rebuild it all depends on how you take care of things and how hard you drive it.

That is good to know. Where should I get one from then, there are some on ebay I've seen for just like $500

or http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/AOD-M...spagenameZWDVW
I would rather have a rebuilt than remanufactured one. Any good places you would recommend?

Word on the street is that the 4R70W is the way to go instead of the AOD. It will handle all the power your 6 cylinder can make plus you can pick one up fairly cheap. The downside is that you need a controller for it, but the controller also allows you to adjust the transmission with a computer.

Heres a thread about it:

I've got the AOD that came from the donor 89 Mustang. I plan on using it until it goes out then upgrading to the 4R70W.

To be honest, I didn't know anything about the 4R70W when I started otherwise I might have gone that route instead.
