rear axle bearing - 65 mustang V8
I had the local shop press on my axle bearings (brought the wrong ones and he took them back to Napa for me and got the right ones). I brought it back and the bearing seems to stick out about 1/16" past the outside of the rear end piece when you put the brake plate and retaining plate on.I could tighten down the retaining plate and it pretty much gets flush on one side andyou can see it bending the retaining plate as you tighten down the nuts. I am wondering if he got the wrong bearings or is it supposed to be like this? What does everyone think, what is wrong? I'll try to post pics later, thanks.

pull the other side and see if there is any dif in thickness.
NAPA usually is the best in my area not many mistakes from those guys.
Some times the splines get nicked and beat up.
They could have gotten knocked over out of your hands look @ the splines for problems clean up with a tri file if you find some.
May just ned to twist it a couple of times to line them up also if no galling on splines us a wooden block and a persuader.

Here is a pic - the strange thing is that the bearing pretty much fits flush on 1 side and is sticking out about 1/16" on the other side
Help!

Thanks Jilg, I don't think I have the right bearing in there - I think it is in all the way but I will take out and measure (my preliminary measurement was that the bearing was a bit wider). I think I will take the picture to the shop tomorrow and ask about it, or maybe take the whole rear end......
