stealth or the rpm will give almost the same result, I doubt you can tell much difference if any between the two, the air-gap will only beat a regular rpm by about 5-10hp at the top end it will make a little less off the line. Boogerschnot.........I thought I would hear those words......performer cam not quite up to your expectations? You would probably pick up a little midrange and slight bit of top end with the rpm but the cam says "bye bye" by 5k, an air-gap with the perf cam is not a good match......oh yea the air-gap is real tall and does not fit under 65-70 stock hoods with a 351w.....beware!

what cam would you recommend to go with the performer RPM for a 351?

looking for something mild and streetable while using stock springs for now.

just stay under .475 lift (or .450, which would be a safer bet but less fun) and you'll be ok with stock springs (you should upgrade them asap though or you'll be a floating fool at higher rpm's

Stock springs? Small cam, maybe 450 lift. Which is pretty much not much more than stock. Save up the money and get the springs, too.

Yeah, the regular Performer is basically an aluminum version of a stock cast iron. Weind's newer Action Plus is what I run, and it pulls like mad all the way to 6,000rpm quite easily. When I have more money I'ma do gears, and put an RPM Air Gap on with a better carb, and possibly swap in a custom cam. And yes, they do now make an Air Gap for the 351. Also get some good springs, the last thing you want to do is float valves. Valve float can = death to an engine

okay so let us say i can scrape enough for springs. what would be good cam and spring combination for a performer RPM? one that won't break the bank and the engine too.

something that is exciting enough for the road yet not too wild and expensive.

I cant say its not up to my expectations yet, because I havent gotten it onto the street to see what I have yet.. Only out of the garage a couple of times and up and down the driveway.. But everytime I think about it, i think, man I probably should have gone with the rpm cam, just for the sake of doing it.. Anyway.. I will probably go with the prm intake.. I know that the next rebuild is going to be the crazy one.. but thats a good 15-20 years from now..

Unless the price is free and you pay shipping I can't afford it

As far as a better cam, if you have the extra moolah, you should seriously consider stepping up to a hydraulic roller cam for street use, or a small solid roller if you don't mind adjusting valve lash periodically. A roller cam will let you run smaller durations, but with better power, economy, reliability and smoother idle and better vacuum. Flat tappet cams work fine, but rollers are better, but a better cam comes with a "better" price [&:] Roller conversion cams are quite expensive
