Hey Stangheads. Imagine the only brand of intake you can buy is Edelbrock. What 4bbl intake would you recommend for a car that has to be reliable on the street?

And why do some swear by Weiand?

It depends on you taget use of your engine.
Do you want peak torque @ 2500 -3500 for quick take off?
Or do you want it @ the top end 3500 to red line for the end of the strip?
Whats size carb goes on the intake?
Stock heads?
stock cam?

All the after-market companies spend big bucks developing packages that work very well together.
It was amazing to see my brothers 5.0 after we bolted a edelbrock power package one weekend.
A set of alum. heads a x 303 cam and lifters and 750 cfm edelbrock carb I thouht the 625 would have been better but the package worked great.
Ask the techs for what ever brand your looking at and they will find what will work best for your needs.

okay lets say the car is an automatic with a 351w.

i just want to add a 600cfm carb and a mild cam but will use everything else stock.

i just want it to have more zip when i drive it on the street off the red light. Yet, i dont want it too wild it will be hard to drive for sunday cruises.

maybe some people like the weiand for street cars cause this is a great "middle of the road" intake between the stockish edelbrock performer and the higher power ranged performer rpm? compare to the ford racing which is 1500-6000 (the weiand is idle to 6000) and you can see the runners on the wieand arent so flat and crappy

would an edelbrock performer RPM be too much for street duty?

what is the performer RPM good for? and should it really matter?cause some say get a dual plane.and doesnt the performer RPM have a dual plane?

The Performer RPM operates in a higher rpm range than something like a Weiand Action Plus, or an Edelbrock Performer. If you use a mild cam and keep the heads bone stock, you're never gonna make power much past 6,000rpm(if that), so there's no sense in getting a larger intake, unless you plan on more mods later. The rpm listed on those intakes is where they work best though, they can generally pull another 500-1,000rpm more before they become restrictive.

that being said, a performer is a piece of sh*t, so i'd probably go with the RPM anyways

+1

I have always had great result with the RPM Air Gap...

IMO the low RPM range at 1,500 is fine.... and the price of $240.00 is pretty damn good......

On my son's 408 the response and performance is good all the way down to idle, (but this is a 408), I have yet to see a down side to this parts selection.

Do they make an Airgap for a 351? I don't think I have seen one before.

+1 on the PerformerRPM. The Performer looks like an aluminum version of the factory cast intake. ehh.

I have the PerfRPM on my 351 w/650 dbl. pump, pretty hot Crower cam, C6 and SVO aluminum heads and it works pretty well.

No complaints

Im wondering the same thing,, I put the Performer Plus cam in during my build, (i probably should have gone with the RPM ),, but I wonder if the PRM intake is going to work better for me than putting on a performer to match the cam. Im thinking it will.. and what about the Air Gap?? I will probably end up just going with the stealth though..
