Definitely need the recommended springs and screw-in studs with that cam. The XE cams especially have a really steep ramp to them that necessitates heavy springs, which necessitates screw-in studs.

You need to have the heads machined for the studs. The factory studs are pressed in, so you need your heads drilled and tapped for the screw-in studs. The new studs should be standard adjustable rocker types, and you'll need new pushrods anyway, so you shouldn't need shims. The adjustment will come from the pushrod length. I'd recommend buying an adjustablepushrod to make sure you get the right pushrods.

I meant the high energy 268h........you can run stock springs and studs with that, the xe 268 cam will require screw in studs, guide plates, pushrods new springs and new roller rockers, with the stock springs and studs you will probably coil bind and/or break studs. If you are running a mostly stock 289....(heads, comp etc...) it's not going to run real good with that cam it will be really boggy off the low end and start making power about 2500-3000.

i called comp cams today and told them the setup, they said i'd be fine with just springs and it was pretty ideal for my setup due to the power range 1500-5500 that i selected it for so i'm just going to do the springs and retainers and leave everything else the way it is. heh i shoulda called them first but whatever lol - least i got the springs and such coming in.
