Default Lucky me.. car could've caught fire!

Just a friendly warning to everyone. I went to pick up my car todayfrom the valet garage where I park it (Queens, NYC), and after sitting for more than three weeks I expected the alarm to have drained the battery. Instead of having them bring up the car (as is policy there), I asked to get it myself and brought a jump start battery. I was happy that the engine still turned but no start... OK, the bowl is dry...give it a few more seconds...

After some pumping it started right up. Instead of hopping in and driving off, I usually take a quick peek under the hood in case anything should be amiss. Luckily I did so today because there was fuel just spraying all over the place.

After cutting the motor, sopping up the puddles of gas off the intake and timing chain cover, and disconnecting the battery, I took a look. The glass tube fuel filter was way loose. It was tight the last time I checked, but hey...
Easy fix, but an easy way to burn up, huh?

OK everyone with those clear glass fuel filters, check that they are tight... please

After letting my car set for almost a year I went out and fired it up.
I pulled out of the garage and out to the road.
Up and down the road in front of the house a couple of times.
Back to the garage, shut it down.

I get out and I notice something is leaking from the engine.
I pop the hood and the carb is leaking gas all over the engine.
Bad diaphram.

So yeah, I know just how it is!

FWIW... A while back I had one of those glass see thru filters on to check for possible debris, since my fuel tank was orig. Car died on a weekend outing with no previous performance problems. Wouldn't accel off idle. Ended up being the filter was clogged, although it looked clear thru the glass.

Yeah, when I take another look on Monday I might tighten it up enough to drive to the parts store and get a filter that doesn't have moving parts. But I've had this one for years. Maybe the o-rings hardened up.
