Default 72 mustang questions

i just recently picked up a 72 mustang fastback, car is in great condition, looks good no rust ,interior is clean, but the 351 in it is on its last legs,as luck would have it though my brother-in-law just toltaled his 04 mustang GT, what i was wondering is ,is it possible to put his motor in my car, everything including the wiring harness and computer and so forth,so that i could keep it fuel injected?

It wont bolt in youll have to notch the shock towers make or buy motor mounts you gotta change the oil pan on the mod motor its alot of work and money.Cheapest why to get fuel injection is the 5.0 out of the fox body mustang or even the 351 with the same efi from the late 80s early 90s f150.Id rather run a big block over a mod motor you can buy a 429/460 cheap and build it up.

The 71 to 73's were designed with a larger engine bay with the thoughts of maybe dropping a Boss 429 or something like that in. Take a tape and measure, I think it will fit withoutmods to the shock towers. Also measure the height of the Modular as these engines are taller. The motor and tranny mount will have to be made oraltered for that application.

Theirs some info that I ran across somewhere, I will see if I can dig it up after work today. Other that being wider and taller, their is a couple of things that will have to be changed. Oil filter and alternator (unless its on top) will have to be relocated. I know my 5.4 32 valve is much much largeras compared tothe 428 and 429. The 428CJ in the 68 requires a fine tooth ratchet and rubber hose to change the plugs without tilting the engine. The 429 in the 71 seems to have all kinds of room. The biggest issue with my Mod engine was the height. I have 1/4 inch clearence between the hood and oil pan. Of course my shock towers are removed.Even an inch can make a big difference.
