Default Brake master cylinders

We are just about ready to start work on the 'Granada' disc swap on our '65 coupe, the only hang-up I have at this point is the master cylinder. I have asked around and checked things out, and everyones conclusion is that we should use the '74 Ford Maverick dual chamber master cylinder. This is all great as far as it goes, but the '80 Ford Granada uses basically the same master cylinder. Both MC's have a .93 inch bore and the stroke is the same, so the question still stands.............why use the Maverick over the Granada?? Auto Zone has a remanedGranada MC for the wopping sum of $16 (no core charge). NAPA has the same thing for $28 (plus an $11 core charge). Auto Zones Marverick MC is $42 and NAPA has it for $38 (although NAPA's is new vice AutoZone's is remaned).

I wouldn't use the reman MC. I've had nothing but bad luck with both import (Chinese) and reman MC's. For that matter, I wouldn't use a reman water pump either.

That said, I use the Maverick MC as well. I don't know what, if any, difference there is with that and the Granada MC. What side are the connections on the Granada MC? On the Maverick, they are on the driver's side just like stock.

Good luck!

I happent to work at AutoZone....I would never let any of thier parts any where near my car, save for mby the brake pads, if i were in a bind and couldnt get my NRS pads. just in case one of my DMs happens to see this. GET IN THE ZONE, AUTOZONE hoora oh and buy Fix-A-Flat we have a special going on(even tho that stuff is crap) hope that conversion works out well for yah.

There is no functional difference between the MC spec'ed for 74 Maverick and 75-80 Granada.

BTW, the quality of the part has nothing to do with the place of manufacture.Quality results from a commitment that begins with design and specification and ends with inspection.Even Bendix sources its MC from China now.

it's always nice to see someone from "discbrakeswap" tuning in.
Saves him a phonecall and the rest of us looking around ;-)

I agree with Jim. Either way, Maverick or Granada, buy a new one.
