Tranny issues....
I have a 66 with 302 and c4.I the c4 checked witha very reliable tranny shop back in april.I was told it had a rebuild no more than a few years old on it.I blew air through the valve body and through tranny to check clutch packs and said they were all good.Everything was fine for awhile now. When in drive or first.nothing.NOt nothing like low fluid where itll go just not til high rpms but nothing at all.REverse works most of the time(dad told me today it wouldnt go in revers for him and thats the only time i know of.) If i slide the shifter back to revers or park and back down with a lil speed it goes in.I havent checked the linkage..could that be it or am i looking at a new tranny? If sowhats my best bang for the buck.if i HAVE to do it i want it to handle a few upgrades im going to do to the 302.

I don't know a whole lot about auto trannys, but have you checked out the vacuum modulator? I know when they go bad they can cause problems. Otherwise, take it to another tranny shop and have them check it out again.

No offence but i can only get responses from people that DO know about auto trannys. Thanks for the response but this thread is about an auto tranny therefore i need info about AUTO's.Vac Mods only control 2nd to 3rd shift.1st is mechanical.thanks anyways.

RE: Tranny issues....
I would check the linkage first that could be your problem if they are not right you may not be fully in gear. And I dout its the same as the trino I had many years ago which was the bands needed adjusting with that car secound gear was the first to go. Its been awhile since I adjusted a auto trans. so I can't tell you the best way to do it but there are others here to better explian it. If no thing else my post will help keep this near the top for everyone to see.

RE: Tranny issues....
My original C4 lost 2nd gear. It'd go fine from first to third. I drove it like that for a year. But my problem was different than what you have there. In any case I'd start with the linkage because it's the cheapest. Beyond that, I'd use that problem as an excuse to upgrade the tranny. I've been running a TCI Streetfighter C4 with a 2200-ish converter for 7 years now and haven't had a problem. Good luck.
