Possible suspension problem in 5.0 66mustang
My dad has a 5.0 in his 66 with a rough idle cam, He has already had to take the car back 4 times to get it realigned due to it moving drastically to the left. THe tires up front seem to be leaning inward and it runs like crap. And ofcourse the tires are wore outdue to the aligment/leaning inward. The guy at sears says it may be the springs. What do yall think, does it need a whole new front suspension, or is something that can be fixed, if so what are front suspension conversions out their that are good and can handle 5.0 performance engines with no problems? i heard the mustang 11 has a good conversion suspension that is all. Is there any other cars with front suspension that will fit 66 mustangs with no problems?

hmmm, does this guy actually know the right alignment specs for your car, they are a bit different than most modern cars from what ive picked up. i believe inteh faq at the top of the page the specs are in tehre somewhere. you can get an entirely rebuilt suspension from many vendors for around 600-1200 for a new stock replacement.
the faq at the top of the classic section is ur greatest friend as a newbie. it ahs everything in there, and if you dont find it, jsut ask us
oh yeah, the 5.0 performance engine you speak of is the 302 we speak of. its a brother basically, just the newer version from the 80's

sounds to me like the alignment shop had no clue what they were doing. When you got it aligned they should have printed out a spec sheet. what specs was the car aligned to???

they did my 65 mustang alignment and that was awhile back and it runs fine, but the 66 is all over the place, it stay together for a couple a weeks, and then you hit a pothole and jerks hard. I got the alignment done at sears so i suspect they know alittle bit about alignment, but who knows. I also gunned the 66 and it feels like it wants to break apart, its just a mess, I dunno if to get a new front suspension or get my dad to work on it, but hes baffled also not knowing what it could be.

dont take it to sears
take it to a good alignment shop that knows wtf they are doing
does the car have the factory upper control arm location or has your dad done what is known as the "shelby drop"
if he has then the car needs to be aligned to 1965 gt350 specs

no it does not, my 65 is lower than the 66, so I am guessing the 66 is at regular height even though it needs spacers from the fenders hitting the tires. So the alignment also has to do with the tires leaning inward?

Having worked at sears for a couple years (thank god no more), I wouldn't take my car there unless I knew someone I trusted who worked there. Some of the guys know what they're doing, some don't have a freaking clue.
Basically, it sounds like whoever did the alignment didn't bother to check the suspension out properly, or doesn't know how to do shim alignments.
Take it to a trusted alignment shop and get the suspension checked out and get it aligned there. I recommend 2-3* caster, -.5* camber, 1/8" toe in.

alignment on a 66 is pretty simple but i would definately stay away from sears. What spacers are you talking about? the only spacers that should be in you front end are the ones that are for alignment on the upper control arm bolts. Stock ride hight should definately not rub fenders.

im pretty sure it is stock height, I will ask him if it is, but my 65 is significantly lower than his and his rubs fenders for some reason. The back fenders rub. I do not know about the front, the tires are leaning inward, thats all i know about the front
