electrical/starter probs
well it seems that it was my alt causing a lot of the problems.... a few things.. on the back of my alt the are the are 5 post's one is the GRD which i grounded to the block, the other is FED which has a orange wire going to it, the other is BAT which a thick black wire going to it, the other is SAT which has nothing going to it and the last post is blank which has a black wire with blue strip.... originally the black blue wire was going no where and nothing worked.. when i connected it to the black post i was able to turn on my head lights... so now to the next problem, the black box that is under my solenoid, when i turn the key to the starting point it makes a "ping" sound, and my starter wont trun... so i went from nothing working to just my head lights and tail lights..... im asuming the "ping" noise is normal that is just the car attempting to draw power to start, but since my distributor is not hooked up it cant. but does any one know why my starter wont turn? its reading 12 volts at the post on it... could it just be a bad starter?

RE: electrical/starter probs
ok so today i hooked up my original starter that came with the car... and that one wont work either.. i tested the volts and when i turn the key to the starting point the volts at the post on the starter jump to 12 but it wont turn... is there something else i have to do to check if my starter works.. will it not turn if it is not bolted to the trans? like i said i have power going to my lights, and to the coil when i turn the key to the starting point.. but my starter wont turn... any ideas

RE: electrical/starter probs
You need to check your solenoid and see if your power is flowing thru. Your turn of the key shoudengauge this. Youmay need a helper. Also, you can check the starter connection at the starter, asit might be a bad connection at the starter lug. Be safe when you do this. A good ole test lightcan help. The ping noise can be the solenoid. Goodluck.

well the solenoid is good... the volts pass thru when it is engaged... and they do travle to the starter.... a friend of mine at work told me that the starter has to be grounded but how do you ground the starter is there is only a + hook up
