Default transmission rebuilding

ive been thinking about putting a 5 speed in my 73. I dont have a lot of cash to put into this so getting something new is out of the question. I was wondering if any of you guys have much expireicne with rebuilding something like a tremec t5, borg warner ect. and how hard is it. (never worked on a trans before) and, while im at it, what kinda strengthening would be recomended on it for a built up eingine?
any info is apreiciated

was gonna bolt it to a 302 that im plannign to build up to around 300-350 Hp tops. it would be a manual ( i have a three speed in there now.) what I was gonna do is go talk to a local trans shop and see if there was someone there i could talk to if i get stuck.

If you are going to bolt it up to a 302 why not just get a good one from a salvage yard from a later model mustang?

idealy, yes I would hope to find one from a salvage or some shop that had one lying around that didnt need much work. Its been hard finding later modelsaround whereI am. IfI found one in a yard however, it would still need work (most likely anyway)..and perhaps strengthed

a 91-95 t-5 is rated at 330hp but it all depends on how you drive. if you want to do tons of burnouts and high rev clutch dumps you will ruin your tranny very quickly. but I am trying to build a t-5 for a 350hp 289.

the tranny is quite easy to rebuild if you have a press and a couple of special tools (bearing pullers) around. I tore mine apartin about 3 hours and I'm still waiting for a rebuild kit to put it back together.

to strenghten it you can get a g-force kit but they are quite spendy, probably cheaper to get a tremectko

my cost $100 core (craigslist) + $250 94 piece ford racing rebuild kit (CHiPS V6 specialties) + $85 rebuilt output shaft (my front bearing journal was damaged)= $435 plus conversion kit and clutch

Well I have ahydraulic press at school. means I line it up, push a little button and pop! things move.

you'd just need a way to pullthe countershaft bearing off in the case (bearing splitter works), fifth gear off the output shaft, 1-2 hub assy, (I think that was all), and put them back together.
