I have a 66 coupe, 200ci motor, 3 spd manual tranny,,,,,I'm trying to find a book that will explain what needs to be done to be completely numbers matching, things to watch out for, the correct look and "feel" of things and such

can anyone recomend a book or books or magazine for proper restoration?

I don't believe such a book exsists....Ford never made "numbers matching" vehicles. I guess you could look up and go by "date coding". Most of restoration work is done by trial and error, experience, and just plain, getting in there and doing it. Can't really recommend a book or mag right now, they seem to be more about trying to sell crap nowadays...Whatch shows on the tube like "chop, cut, rebuild...Gears, Trucks...to get ideas on what you feel comfortable doing. If you keep in mind quality, you will eventually get what you are looking for...but, like they say, practice makes perfect. You just have to try different things till you get what you like.



I seem to be rambling...to sum it up...talk to people doing what you're wanting to do, look at what they do, and ...practice.

In addition to what's been mentioned, you might join Mustang Club of America (MCA). There, you'll find standards, by which, to restore your mustang. In addition, visit National and Grand Nation mustang shows and seek out the top cars in their respective classes. Ask a lot of questions. Pay attention to date codes, and learn how to decipher them. As mentioned, having owned my May built 64 "D" code CVT, for almost 30 years and restored it (resto-mod) 8 years ago, I too, have not seen a book like you're seeking. And mustangs monthly forum also has a good exchange on this subject with an engineer that worked for Ford during the days.

I agree with KenAsh. Join MCA and also look into your local Mustang club. Some have some very knowledgeable people who are willing to help a fellow member.
